We have a fixed term contract opportunity for an experienced Information Compliance/Data Protection Officer for our client based in the Hindlip area of Worcestershire.

Your role will be to provide a high level of information disclosure expertise at a strategic and a working level to ensure compliance with legislation, national and company policy.

Main Duties:

  • Undertaking information disclosure casework in respect of Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Data Protection Act 1998 requests for information.
  • Maintenance of the clients Freedom of Information Act 2000 publications scheme.
  • Planning and conducting information audits and producing associated reports in accordance with ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) Data Protection Audit Manual.
  • Maintaining records of information quality assurance data, PNC, Transaction Log checks and produce reports on performance.
  • Undertake subject access applications from the public to the client’s and National systems, research the data stored and determine the lawfulness of responses prior to disclosure.
  • Research and respond to queries from members of the public and internal members of staff on information management matters relating to the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Data Protection Act 1998, Computer Misuse Act 1990, Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and the Crime & Disorder Act 1998.
  • Determine the lawfulness of specific information disclosures to other organisations including crime and disorder partners, advising managers at all levels on the preparation of information disclosures and as required to research and issue disclosure documents.
  • Attend and represent the client at internal and external meetings and input to the client’s induction training as required by the Data Protection Manager.
  • Ensure integrity, fairness and consideration of the needs of others are incorporated into the daily duties and relationships with colleagues.

Essential requirements:

  • Experience within a similar role with a proven ability of dealing with confidential information
  • Good detailed knowledge of the police service or public sector working environment
  • Recent and proven knowledge of current legislation:
    • Freedom of Information Act 2000
    • Data Protection Act 1998
    • Human Rights Act 1998
    • Computer Misuse Act 1990
    • Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
    • Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988
    • Crime & Disorder Act 1998
  • Experience in analysis, interpretation and the production of statistical reports on performance
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload whilst balancing conflicting priorities
  • Good organisational and time management skills with a strong decision making ability
